WELL ... IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR WHEN SOME POLITICIANS GO AROUND LECTURING US ON WHAT PATRIOTISM 'REALLY' IS

Life's tough. It's even tougher if your stupid --- John Wayne (AS Sgt. Stryker in "Sands of Iwo Jima".

Here we go again. Barack's out telling us patriotism is digging down into your pockets and paying the trillion dollars in taxes he needs to give health care to 12-20 million illegal immigrants and to pay for other such big government programs. Unpatriotic is what president George Bush did in allowing us to keep more of our earnings in our own pockets to decide what we want to do with it.

"Let me be perfectly clear ... " is his new mantra as he flips and flops and flips back in his positions attempting to seem middle of the road. He supports gun control his whole life, but applauds the Supreme Court's recent decision overturning Washington D.C.'s handgun ban.

He voted against an Illinois bill requiring physicians to save the life of babies born alive after botched abortions, giving 8-10 different reasons for his vote, the most recent in his pandering to the evangelical right ... "Praise the Lord!"

He's backing away from his promises to the radical left to withdraw from Iraq, qualifying any withdrawal with the caveat that he'd now do so only after consulting with military commanders.

Then there's the matter of the FISA bill - is he against it again, after being against it, then for it, or will he simply avoid the issue and not vote one way or the other.

Obama has given new meaning to the word "change", hasn't he? He simpy "changes" his mind depending on to whom he is speaking.

None of that matters that much to me, to be honest. If it isn't obvious to you that he is no more than a "typical" politician, it never will be. This nation seems to be evenly divided between one half that is willing to give up their liberty in an even swap for big government "freebies", and another that rejects the kind of assaults they've been seeing on the America they love by a radical leftist mentality and the all-powerful fascist system they are intent on implementing - with high gasoline prices used to limit our mobility, socialized healthcare to control who gets what as medical care is rationed, and the global warming scheme to control and regulate almost every aspect of our lives.

Let this Independence Day be a reminder to them that they won't accomplish this without a fight. Spare us the lectures and the new definitions. We don't have to raise our voices and stick our chests out to convince anyone that we are patriotic. We don't have to stand before rows of flags and wear flag pins on our chests either.

You see, when we see a flag pin, we don't see a bit of shiny red, white, and blue metal. We see the lives of those who sacrificed their money, property, and lives to give us the country we have today - a country where imbeciles can try to shout down presidents welcoming new citizens into the family of America.

The America some people go around declaring they have never been proud of it, and that we are a "mean country". Perhaps people who show their "patriotism" by bad-mouthing this country on a daily basis should ask the people who became citizens today what their countries were like, and what they think of their new country.

It's a country that we live in where we can still enjoy "Rock 'n' Roll, Disney World, blue jeans, pimento cheese, Cincinnati Chili, coffee and chicory, bowling alleys, banana splits, and if you're lucky - Diners, Drive-In Movies, and sandlot baseball ... and we can still come and go as we wish and speak our minds.

That applies to many situations, not the least of which is to people who have to justify their love of country by creating new definitions and posing for photo-ops.

Think about it. I have nothing to sell.

And San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom is contemplating a run for Governor? Are you kidding me?

In a terrible related incident, Tony Bologna and his sons Michael and Matthew were murdered driving home from a barbecue by a suspected illegal alien, Edwin Ramos, a member of the Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13, gang.

Ramos was arrested and released just a few months ago (despite being linked to a gun used in another murder) by San Francisco D.A. Kamala Harris, a public official who apparently never saw a thug she didn't think needed just a little compassion and understanding.

Ms. Harris dropped charges against Ramos before investigators had a chance to conduct a ballistics test and DNA analysis on the gun found on a fellow gang member who was riding in a car with Ramos. It turns out that gun had been used two days prior to Ramos’ arrest to kill two people.

It's the old "all for the children" argument, I suppose. They're actually nice kids, right? Just misunderstood.

My God! What are you people putting in the water out there? What a great advertisement for the progressive city of San Francisco, its mind-numbed liberal leaders, and its Queen Bee, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Great job folks! You make me want to puke!

It is only alleged at this point, but the initial "suspicion" is that Brooke was lured into her uncle's house where she was apparently raped and murdered.

According to an unidentified 14-year-old girl, on June 25, Brooke was apparently tricked by her uncle, Michael Jacques, 42, into thinking she was going to a party. Instead, he took her to his home to be initiated into a sex ring.

The 14-year-old claimed she herself had been having sex with Jacques since she was 9, as part of the sex ring.

Jacques has been in custody since Sunday on sexual assault charges involving another underage girl.

I wonder if the five liberal "Supremes" would have deemed such alleged crimes worthy of the death penalty had not this child been killed?

It doesn't matter. As far as I know, Vermont has no death penalty, no matter how horrendous the crime. A very progressive mentality, don't you think?

I suppose I'll have to use my precious time to put things into perspective again.

You may or may not have seen the headlines, heard the news commentators, perhaps even read an article or two:

'SCIENTISTS PREDICT NO ICE AT NORTH POLE THIS SUMMER!'

Or something like that. Oh, dear ... will this be the end of Santa? Where will the polar bears and reindeer go?

Believe it or not, even intelligent people are being suckered into falling for this foolishness. I can hear Al Gore now, even over the roar of his private jets and the churning of his massive energy consumption inside his four mansions, "The effects of global warming are worse than even we imagined. The Arctic Circle is now ice free (NOT!)! Send us money now! The debate is still over!

It was part of a letter from the President of the Royal Society, London, to the British Admiralty, on November 20, 1817!

I repeat - 1817! This global warming/global cooling story has been going on forever! In it's currrent reincarnation, having been hijacked by the radical left, it is the tool they would use to inflict their fascist ideology, along with enabling politicians and global businessmen, upon a hapless ill-informed world - particularly the industrialized capitalist world they hate so much.

Now, global warming alarmists would have you believe that this has not happened in the last 50 million years. The media simply regurgitates what "experts" say without verifying the facts. Read the articles yourself instead of accepting someone's interpretation of them.

You'll be surprised at what you're reading if you read them closely and pay attention.

When the United States sent submarines under the polar ice cap starting around 1958, The USS Skate being the first, I believe, they found open water in and around the North Pole at various times of the year.

In August of 2000, a Russian icebreaker, the Yamal, was greeted by an expanse of open water at the North Pole.

Dr. James McCarthy, an oceanographer, director of the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University declared to the media, "It was totally unexpected."

Dr. Malcolm C. McKenna, a paleontologist at the American Museum of Natural History, remarked, "I don't know if anybody in history ever got to 90 degrees north to be greeted by water, not ice."

"The last time scientists can be certain the pole was awash in water was more than 50 million years ago." proclaimed the New York Times in an article entitled `The North Pole is melting' (August 19, 2000).

Fifty million years ago indeed! When Robert Peary "discovered" the North Pole in 1909, his expedition was often thwarted by open bodies of water which prevented him from proceeding across ice.

Look ... there has been no meaningful warming of the planet in ten years ... and there is evidence to show that other periods have been much hotter than any recent trend.

Evidence is available showing problems with climate models and fudging of facts and statistics in everything from the infamous "Hockey stick" graph used by Al Gore and others to advance their agenda to the actual temperature measuring stations themselves.

Many have been shown to be situated in urban areas where heat from unnatural sources like parking lots, buildings, and air conditioner exhausts have potentially skewed their measurements up ... much to the delight of the global warming alarmists.

While there has been a trend toward less ice in the Arctic Ocean since the late seventies, ice in Antarctica (representing 92% of ALL ice on Earth) is at RECORD levels.

Moreover, temperatures at the Arctic circle have been stable for decades, and many many independent records have demonstrated this:

You see, you can't skew arctic temperatures by putting surface temperature station instruments next to air conditioning exhausts or hot pavement.

I have more, one going back to the 1920's, and I've posted tons of other evidence as well over the last 15 months.

So why the up and down trends in Arctic Ice if not due to global warming?

Remember - the Arctic Circle is an ocean with ice floating on top of it surrounded by land. Antarctica is a continent surrounded by oceans.

Ocean currents bringing warm tropical waters periodically northward, changes in salinity (salt content), undersea volcanoes, wind patterns, precipitation, humidity, all affect the amounts and the locations of ice in the Arctic regions. They always have.

In summer, the North Pole is pointing toward the Sun and there is 24-hour daylight. Remember that ... or check with your favorite elementary school student if you've forgotten or you perhaps missed the class where you learned why we have different seasons.

It's why we have climate change. It used to be called the weather. Now it's a socialist/fascist scheme to control you and your life. Ask a child that hopefully hasn't been brainwashed yet.

Or, you can look it up yourself. The media won't do it for you.

AFTER SLAPPING THE AMERICAN PEOPLE IN THE FACE TWICE ALREADY, THE SUPREME COURT FINALLY GOT ONE RIGHT ... BARELY

You have no idea how close we came to having a constitutional right that has existed for over 200 years negated by leftist activist Justices on the Supreme Court, do you? I woke up this morning expecting to be horrified but, thank God, we have a president who was able to get two moderate nominations approved during his term so that those members who believe that the Constitution only means what they say it means came up one vote short.

By a narrow 5-4 vote, the Court decided that, yes, the Constitution still exists and that the Second Amendment actually means what it says in giving individual citizens the right to bear arms.

It is frightening that four Justices are still refusing to use the Constitution in their exercise of judicial review, preferring to cite foreign law, polls, and evolving societal standards of progress instead of actual law.

This is what the left in this country has brought us, and threatens still to inflict upon this nation, in its perverted attempt to alter our very government step-by-step, inch-by-inch, into a fascist state in which they, not the Constitution, decide what rights you and I are entitled to.

In typical fashion, Barack Obama wants to have it both ways, supporting the decision in its essence and ignoring all the statements he’s previously made in favor of the banning of guns. The fact, however, that he has made no bones about supporting the nomination of radical leftists like Ruth Bader Ginsberg and Stephen Breyer, individuals who want to use their positions to legislate from the bench, is cause for deep concern.

Imagine what would have happened in this country had Justice Kennedy come down on the side of Fascism! I shudder to think.

The other two recent decisions in recent weeks is an indication of what we have to look forward to.

In the first case, Justice Anthony Kennedy joined the four liberal Justices in deciding that illegal combatants, detained during a war, have the right of habeas corpus, a right our own military do not have, and may petition civilian courts to be released … perhaps into your neighborhood should they argue their lives might be endangered should they be returned to their own countries. Don’t laugh. That was just done in the United Kingdom where a terrorist was not only released but given a monthly pension of around $1200 in U.S. dollars.

Then we have the case of a man who actually lived near my own home, a 300 pound monster, Patrick Kennedy, who brutally raped his 8-year-old stepdaughter five years ago and was sentenced to death under a 1995 Louisiana law:

A Child Rapist! He bathed her after the rape and then waited hours before calling 911 for help, claiming she’d been raped by two neighborhood teenagers while she was outside selling Girl Scout cookies. He called a carpet-cleaning company about removing blood from carpet.

This child sustained horrible injuries and trauma, had to undergo emergency surgery, can never have children, and will be physically, mentally, and emotionally scarred for life.

"We conclude there is a national consensus against capital punishment for the crime of child rape," Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote.

Really? Maybe the five Justices in the majority should use their vacation time to travel around the country explaining to concerned parents how they were just giving the people what they want. They could start right here in Louisiana. I can guarantee they’ll draw some huge crowds.

I’ve also read blogs supporting the decision, some asserting that we are too hung up on sex, that somehow we tend to overdo it when it comes to sex crimes. I read one comment where a mother said something to the effect that, “Hey, it’s not like my daughter would be dead … just damaged, and my love could heal that.”

I think the taking of life, even a guilty and worthless one, is a heartbreaking and awesome responsibility. But I’m sorry … this is sick. If that’s your opinion, wait until it’s your child that is damaged. And everyone should know, rape is not primarily about sex. It’s about power, and degradation, and in the case of babies and children as victims, borders on the demonic.

The next time I hear a liberal say, “It’s all about the children!” I think I’ll puke. Are these people suicidal or what?

Look, if you want to continue down this path these morons are taking us, keep ignoring what’s going on in this country, or better yet, keep working for and electing these people who are apparently so blind, and so out of touch with what we have always stood for and what they're doing to this country, they'll do anything to gain power and promote their agenda. As for me … I’ll die first.

Next on their agenda? Free speech maybe? Nancy Pelosi and her minions are working on that now. They'll have to be content at present with bragging to their parents and children how they gave rights to terrorists and child rapists. Today, they got their butts spanked. I so hope they'll have to learn how to get used to it.

OR, YOU CAN'T FUEL ALL OF THE PEOPLE ...

... all of the time.

I’ve been back to the track. This is the middle of my third week of jogging, after having had to lay off longer than usual for a variety of personal issues, mostly family and health-related. Here is the place I’ve been going off and on for the last 15 years:

They have two baseball fields next to the track and sometimes I get to watch the kids play. I still like to hear the sound of wood on horsehide although it's metal on God-knows-what? these days.

Each year gets a little harder because my own condition prevents me from jogging and exercising consistently and my layoffs seem to come more often and last longer. I noticed three weeks ago that I weighed 5 pounds more than I did in November when I’d last run, and I wanted to pull off some weight back then! And so, I decided to keep putting my best feet forward and do the best I can.

I started at one mile and have been up to 2¾ miles as of this week. That’s eleven laps around the track. So far, even though it’s been mid to high eighties when I’ve run, I’ve been lucky to enjoy quite a bit of cloud cover and occasional cool breezes. Some days have actually been pleasant. I've even run during some light drizzles occasionally, and I once ran during a light rain, much to the delight of some teenage girls in hoodies that were heading past me, probably taking a shortcut to somewhere.

"Is that fun?" one kind of stuttered as they walked past me.

I said it was very cool and refreshing. And it was.

Here I am on a particularly hot day, just finished running and getting ready to do some stretching and exercises. I think it was 91 when the sun came out.

Right behind me to the right is where I took my good Friends Mike, Eileen, their two kids Ian and Hanna, and friend Ray to play last year. Sometimes when I turn that corner I can still hear Ian squealing as he did when he whacked his first real baseball with a genuine wooden bat, and laughing every time I had to go chasing down one of his shots. I can also remember that little sneer of Eileen's when she whistled one past my head *LOL* and Hanna's tears (and more) when it was time to go, all the while Mike recording everything for posterity. ;-)

Places always seem to hold memories so securely and so well.

I haven’t seen my ghost friends yet although last night I had quite a nice “visitation” and one of the warmest hugs I can ever remember having, from a dear friend, and even though it was tucked inside a dream and awakening from it was a slight disappointment, it was a Technicolor spectacular, splashed with sunshine - and although such dreams are always bittersweet, moments experienced in those phantom flashes of experience never seem to fade.

I can still feel the tickle of warm soft cotton against my fingertips and the overwhelming crush of memories togetherness brings. Such are the things sweet dreams are made of, and so I keep on running and dreaming and putting my best foot forward, no matter what.

Now, if you are a George Carlin fan but a hard-core liberal with no sense of humor (unless someone is making fun of whoever upsets your worldview), you might want to skip this one, a beautiful Carlin rant where he puts it to arrogant self-righteous environmentalists and white bourgeois liberals who think the Earth has survived 4 1/2 billion years of upheaval and catastrophe but is about to be ruined by plastic bags and aluminum cans.

Some people see things that are and ask, Why? 
Some people dream of things that never were and ask, Why not? 
Some people have to go to work, and don't have time for all that.

The main reason Santa is so jolly is because he knows where all the bad girls live.

The other night I ate at a real nice family restaurant. 
Every table had an argument going.

The reason I talk to myself is that I'm the only one whose answers I accept. 

There's no present. 
There's only the immediate future and the recent past.

Well, if crime fighters fight crime and fire fighters fight fire, what do freedom fighters fight? They never mention that part to us, do they?
